Reality vs Fiction (Numba 9)

Real vs Fiction
The Life of Truman Burbank

By: Garrett Coles

Imagine a world where yore whole life is the center of attention, 24/7. Everyone knows your name, everyday at least 1 person smiles and waves at you acknowledging your existence. Sounds great? Now imagine not knowing that your the main feature of this world, but everyone else does, that is, Truman Burbank.

Truman did lead a very average/good life. He managed to become a good citizen. He had a job, he graduated high school, he got married. He had all the experiences, that everyone else his may or may not of had a chance to experience. There was nothing fake about Truman, he was honest, he had friends and he was able to connect with people establishing relationships. However, as much as Truman was real, the people around him were not.

Truman led a very good life, but almost every event in his life was scripted. Truman was protected from the dangers in the "real" world, but still given plenty of experience. His best friend Marlin, was truly his best friend, but anything they did together was fake, plus anything Marlin said was from a script. Now as much as people believe this to be bad. All the lies that were given and conspired around him. It did give him experience and help him grow as a person. Sure Truman’s personality was gained from a so called "fake" environment, so what, He still became a good person and had all the experiences nesseccary to survive in the "real" world.
Truman may have lived in a dome, on a island, and cut off from the rest of the world but he was still a person, living a life, and growing up in a community. As much as Truman’s life was fake and full of lies, it was still a life of safety and experiences that led him to become a very decent and well rounded person. So what if his life was scripted, if my life was scripted to be like that, it be one great ride.
